Sorry i am not in everyone, I am on a course.

We have the final debate of ‘Is Psychology a Science?’ to cover. In preparation for that I would like you to write 2 x 300 word paragraphs to bring to your next lesson - one on why you think psychology IS a science and evaluated and the second on why you think psychology IS NOT a science and evaluated. I am not expecting you to research the theories, this is based on your opinion. However, try to back up your points in each paragraph with psychological evidence and evaluate using the standard criticisms.

social-influence-revision.ppt As used in my revision sessions after school - this constitutes the absolute bare minimum you need to know and not all of the evaluative points are covered. However it may be a good starting point for revision of this topic.

My son has broken his arm and I need to take him to the hospital for a follow-up x-ray! What I want you to do is:

Either using the internet or the information in your resource pack (page 31) complete the page of clinical characteristics of depression in your workbook.
Read the case studies on pages 31 and 32 and pick out examples of the symptoms.
Read the article “Depression a modern epidemic” in your resource pack, pick out 5 key points.

Bring your work to our next lesson. I have pre-registered you.

I will be running after school sessions after half term to focus on reviewing the topics that we have completed and building exam skills particularly evaluation and essay writing. The schedule is below:

Wed 20th Feb – Defining Abnormality

Wed 27th Feb – Models of Abnormality

Wed 5th March – Models of Abnormality

Wed 12th March – Eating Disorders

Wed 19th March – Research Metnods

Wed 9th April – Research Methods

Wed 16th April – Research Methods

Wed 23rd April – Attachment

Wed 30th April – Deprivation

Wed 7th May – Day care

Wed 14th May – General Revision and Exam Skills

Sessions will be in Q4 and begin at 3.30pm until 4.30pm. You can come every week or just to a couple of sessions.

This is for all 3 year 12 groups regardless of whether you have me or not for lessons. All these sessions will be taught by me. Here is my proposed schedule:

Tues 19th Feb – Majority and Minority Influence

Tues 26th Feb – Obedience and Resistance to obedience

Tues 4th Mar – Validity and Ethics

THURS 13th Mar – Stress as a bodily response and illness

Tues 18th Mar – Workplace stress and Individual differences

THURS 10th Apr – Stress management and control

Tues 15th Apr – Encoding, capacity and duration and models of memory

Tues 22nd April – Forgetting

Tues 29th April – Emotional and Reconstructive

Tues 6th May – EWT

Tues 13th May – Overview and skills

All sessions will run in Q4 until approximately 4:30. There are 2 that have to be on a Thursday as one Tuesday is mentoring day and the other I am on a course. You do not have to attend all sessions and you don’t need to let me know in advance if you are coming. This is a real opportunity to review each topic and practice skills to help you in the exam. You are all welcome at all sessions.
